The Preface Fabric Trade Show, a key event in the fashion and textile industry, is set to reveal an exciting new format on January 28-29, 2025 in Los Angeles at 356 S. Mission Road, in the heart of the Arts District. This year's event will delve into the future of circular design, upcycling, and sustainability — all crucial themes for the evolving world of fashion.
A Collaborative Approach for a Sustainable Future
In a major shift, this edition of Preface is produced in collaboration with Re/Assembly — an organization co-founded by Sohyun Cho, Jodi Everding, Stina Randestad, and Ida Esteri Karkkainen — dedicated to supporting creative talent in the transition to a more sustainable, circular fashion model. The event also partners with Here/After, a collaboration between Amy Leverton (founder of Denim Dudes) and Erin Barajas, both experts in denim innovation and sustainable practices.
Betsy Franjola, founder of Preface, shares, “This season marks a new chapter for Preface as we take a fully collaborative approach for the first time. By uniting with these innovative partners, we’re creating our most inspiring event yet, rich in educational content and trend programming.”
Unraveling Circularity: The Future of Fashion
The event’s theme, “Unraveling Circularity,” will bring together industry leaders, designers, and suppliers to explore the tools and insights that will shape the future of fashion. Attendees will have access to curated exhibits, interactive sessions, expert panels, and networking opportunities that will offer practical resources on circular design, helping designers and brands move away from traditional, resource-intensive methods and embrace eco-friendly alternatives.
Denim Industry at the Forefront
A key highlight of this year's show will be the expansion of the denim supply chain section, curated by Denim Dudes. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore cutting-edge innovations in denim from leading brands such as Orta, Iskur, Lab Denim, Desert Studio, Denimai, and Maritas. Exclusive insights into global denim trends, along with panels on culture, creativity, and the future of denim, will be presented throughout the event.
Amy Leverton, co-founder of Here/After, says, “We’ve previously hosted intimate, elevated experiences, and I’m thrilled to bring the same energy to a larger audience, showcasing how denim is evolving in the context of sustainability.”
Live Upcycling Fashion Design Competition
A standout feature of this year’s event is Re/Assembly’s Upcycling Fashion Design Competition. Emerging designers will compete in a thrilling live challenge, where they will transform post-consumer clothing, textile waste, and recycled materials into runway-ready garments in just six hours. This live event showcases the power of circularity in pushing the boundaries of creativity, demonstrating that sustainability can fuel innovative design rather than restrict it.
The competition targets 3rd and 4th-year students, as well as recent fashion graduates. A panel of industry experts will select finalists based on their design process, craftsmanship, and commitment to sustainability. The winners will receive valuable prizes, including a Juki sewing machine and a 750 euro gift card from Weturn, a leading European manufacturer of premium recycled fabrics.
Join the Leading Brands and Designers
The Preface Fabric Trade Show is expected to attract notable brands like AG Jeans, Frame, Reformation, Good American, Paige, True Religion, Staud, Buck Mason, Rails, Doen, and L’Agence, alongside emerging designers and sustainability leaders. This is a prime opportunity for professionals from all levels of the fashion industry to connect, learn, and engage with the movement towards a more sustainable fashion future.
